As the saying goes, "It's better to give than to receive and to share is to love..."
The 12th ASEAN Summit was held here in Cebu, Philippines last January 12 until 15 of 2007. This time, the ASEAN Summit brought the theme, "One Caring and Sharing Community" which reflects the initiatives taken by the Philippines in ASEAN community building and common people's participation. But deeper inside, what does it mean?
In these days, it is very difficult to see people giving something without expecting something in return. It is all because of poverty. How could we give if we don't have money? But it is not just things we can buy with money are the things we can give but also what we can give with our hearts. We can give love, not even in Christmas day but everyday.
Let me share a story, a short story that you, as a reader, can reflect unto, how one can share and
care for others even without the wealth.
So, once, there was a young boy who lived in the streets. One day, he found a plastic beside a post and inside was a piece of siopao. At that time, he was very hungry. He got the bag and went on his way. He stayed in a corner, and soon started to eat. But not, too long, he saw a young girl carrying her little brother, staring at him. Watching that innocent, young girl, he knew the reason why. He went near to them and offered his food. And the three started enjoying their food.
How was it? Isn't it great to hear that although you don't have the wealth but you have the heart to share and care for others. So now, let me share you a story of mine.
I came from a public school and inspite of my parent's humble income, I finished my elementary studies. Now, I am in high school. And here, there are people who are helping me with my studies. Great thanks to God, Almighty.
Nowadays, we are such in a great calamity, as if a great typhoon passed by or even worst, facing many problems involving the young, meek and needy. But if were together, caring and sharing, we could be a one, strong community and could lead this nation to a better future.
